How to Assess Auto Body Repair Warranties

March 13, 2020/by Ed

Nearly all auto body repair shops will offer some form of warranty for their customers. Some will provide a lifetime warranty. The vast majority, however, will offer a limited warranty that protects your investment from minor defects or issues that arise as a result of the repair.

Be careful, however, because not every warranty is the same. Even if you trust your chosen collision repair center and you’ve had a good experience before, there’s no guarantee that everything will go smoothly again. It makes fiscal sense to get insurance where you can. Here’s what you need to look for when it comes to auto body repair warranties.

What to Look Out For in Auto Body Repair Warranty

Here are a few short questions you should ask the auto body shop technician when discussing warranties.

Does it cover labor and parts? This should be a given, but the warranty has to cover both the installation work and the parts. This makes sure that the quality of the work is assured.

Does it provide comprehensive coverage? You don’t just want a warranty that only covers labor and parts, however. You also want to make sure that any damage that occurs during the repair is covered. This can include repaired breaking soon after, stress cracks that result from the work, and rust.

Does it provide additional coverage for related issues? There are lots of parts of your car that could be damaged during a repair. Does your warranty cover these if they are damaged? Most reputable auto body shops won’t hesitate to do so, which is good because these repairs can be expensive.

How long does the warranty last? This is the most important thing you need to check. A good auto body warranty should last for at least a few months. If you can get a warranty that lasts longer than this then even better! Be aware of lifetime warranties, however, because while they sound great, they often aren’t. If you are offered a lifetime warranty, make sure that it has everything that a shorter, more robust warranty has. If it doesn’t, then it probably isn’t worth it and you’re better off going with a shorter warranty.

It pays to take auto body repair warranties seriously. If something unforeseen happens, these can protect your car and protect the investment you have made in repairs. Discuss warranties with other customers and make sure to shop around to get the best deal. Don’t be afraid to negotiate, either, if your chosen auto body repair shop’s warranty doesn’t live up to a competitor’s.

Also make sure that take time to discuss what happens if you need to redeem your warranty and what the process is. There’s no point paying for a warranty if you don’t know how to use it.

If you’re looking for a great auto body repair shop with a fantastic warranty, then don’t hesitate to get in touch today. We’ll be happy to repair your car quickly, effectively and for a fair price.
