A Schedule To Care For Your Car

May 30, 2019/by Ed

Cars naturally weather with time depending on use and how well (or badly) you look after them. Without proper upkeep, a vehicle can look worn out and suffer from performance issues. Experts recommend having regular maintenance so your car can last for years on end. Though it does provide numerous other benefits besides.

In this article, you’ll learn…

  • The importance of car care
  • The benefits of car maintenance
  • The ultimate car care schedule

Why your car needs some TLC

Vehicles are integral to your everyday life. They help you get places, be it the office, school, or pretty much anywhere you need to be. As its owner, the least you can do is give it some tender loving care so it stays in good working condition.

The Main Benefits of Car Maintenance

Car care may be somewhat a hassle. But the benefits it provides easily outweigh this minor inconvenience and make it worthwhile.

1. Keeps your car running smoothly

Poor maintenance causes vehicle parts to deteriorate and malfunction, or stop working altogether. For instance, neglecting the cylinder head and spark plugs lead to engine failure. Car care keeps parts like these in check so your vehicle will continue to function efficiently.

2. Allows for safe driving

When certain car parts fail, they can be more than a nuisance. They can put you at risk as well. A good example would be the brakes. If they loosen or jam while driving on the road, it could have potentially fatal results. Making sure your vehicle is in top shape will help you avoid accidents.

3. Saves you money

Car maintenance may come at a cost but it’s going to save you more money down the road. It can prevent issues before they even happen, or help you spot problems with your vehicle early on so they don’t get worse. Either way, they spare you the trouble of having to pay for repairs or replacement which tend to be expensive compared to maintenance costs.

4. Preserves your car’s value

Vehicles are also an investment, much like your home. Proper car care is a great way to preserve its value. It delays the normal wear and tear of a vehicle, both aesthetically and under the hood. Should you decide to sell your car, you’d be able to do so for a good price.

The Ultimate Car Care Schedule

Following is a list of things you need to do as part of a regular car schedule. Take note that you may need a mechanic or a professional auto shop to perform some of these checks.

Check Every Month:

  • Check engine light (must be OFF)
  • Dashboard indicator lights (must be ON)
  • Windshield washing fluid
  • Tire pressure and tread
  • Head lights
  • Engine oil level

Note: This is also a good time to clean your car’s interior and exterior

Check Every 3 Months or 3,000 Miles:

  • Battery and cables
  • Engine air filter
  • Belts
  • Exhaust
  • Hoses
  • Automatic transmission fluid
  • Power steering fluid

Check Every 6 Months or 6,000 Miles:

  • Windshield wipers
  • Chassis lubrication

Check Every 12 Months or 12,000 Miles:

  • Wheel alignment
  • Coolant (or antifreeze)
  • Cabin air filter
  • Steering and suspension
