How to tell if your Driveshaft is failing

September 3, 2021/by carmel

Taking control of your vehicle is quite a challenge once you have a bad or faulty driveshaft. If your car starts exhibiting any of the symptoms below, getting it to a trusted auto repair shop is necessary. The shop has expert technicians who’ll work to make sure every issue in your driveshaft is fixed. Depending on the source and extent of the problem, it could include a cv-joint replacement, u-joint replacement, or axle repairs. Once it’s done, your car will be back on the road as soon as possible while minimizing your repair costs from other future damages. In this article, we’ll explore the signs that will tell you if your driveshaft is failing.

Vibrations underneath your Car

If you notice vibrations under your vehicle, you need to be careful because it’s a sign that your driveshaft is failing. So what causes your driveshaft to fail and vibrate? There are a few possible culprits, but generally, worn-out u-joints or bushings can cause intense vibrations in the driveshaft.

If you feel some shaking underneath your vehicle, then you need to get your bushings and u-joints checked and replaced if necessary. Disregarding this issue may lead to even more extensive damage to other parts of the drivetrain. That’s why it’s important to get your car checked immediately so the problem can be resolved at its early stages.

Problems in Turning

If you’re having problems turning your car, then it may be due to a failing driveshaft. Controlling a vehicle would be quite challenging if the u-joint is worn out or damaged. If there’s a problem limiting your ability to steer your car properly, you need to address it immediately. Resolving your turning problems ensures a safe driving experience not just for you but for your passengers as well. Repairing your problematic drivetrain allows you to continue driving your car safely in and out of the road.

Shuddering

Do you experience some shuddering once you accelerate your vehicle? It also happens once you start from a stationary position or during low speeds. If you experience these signs, your car may have a bad center bearing or a loose u-joint. A damaged or failing u-joint may also generate some noise while your vehicle is shuddering.

Loud Clunking Noises

Another sign of a problematic driveshaft is loud clunking noises. Worn-out u-joints typically generate these irritating sounds. And remember, a faulty u-joint directly affects the driveshaft’s ability to rotate correctly, resulting in an unsafe driving experience. Squeaking noises when you’re driving at low speeds also signifies that the u-joints lack lubrication. If it’s producing knocking sounds, then the cv-joint is at fault.

Conclusion

Repairing a faulty drivetrain isn’t something you can do on your own at your home’s garage unless you have the necessary expertise and equipment. If you experience any of the symptoms above, don’t hesitate to take your car to an auto shop near you. Their technicians will handle all your drive train issues for you with the best possible results.
