How to Protect your Car in Parking Lots

As more and more people are driving cars in the US, there’s also been a rise in the number of vehicle dents from parking lots. And in bustling cities and heavily populated areas, the cases are even higher. If you’re a car owner, you need to be aware of the potential dangers that can damage your car and cost you money. In this article, we’ll explore how you can better protect your car in parking lots.

It’s OK to Park a Little Farther

We do this a lot. We drive to a mall or shopping center and find the closest parking spot to the entrance. It makes sense to park as close as possible to the place you are going to, but there’s a problem with this. All the other mall-goers and shoppers in a hurry are also trying to find the closest parking spot, which increases the chances of being bumped. For this reason, it might be better to park a little farther so you can easily get in and out of the parking lot and lower your chances of getting a dent.

Make Room for other Vehicles

Make sure you give enough space for other vehicles that will park next to you. Try not to park too close to the line and consider that if the driver beside you opens his door, it should not hit the side of your car. Leave enough room on both sides of your spot so other drivers can easily get in and out of their vehicles without touching yours.

Don’t Park beside Vehicles with Car Seats

If you have kids, then you know how stressful it is to get them in and out of the car in the parking lot. You need to have all the space you can get to make things as smooth for you as much as possible. Sometimes kids would open their doors without thinking about whether or not they would hit the car parked next to them. Thus, if you spot a car with a car seat, you might want to avoid parking next to it. If you can’t avoid parking next to it, try to give as much room as you can.

Take your Time when Pulling Out

Finally, always take your time when pulling out of the parking lot and make sure to turn in the right direction to avoid bumping into the other car that’s also pulling out. Drive slowly and safely and always be careful. It’s another good reason why it’s advantageous to park a little further away so that you don’t have to worry about other cars when you pull out.

In case you get a Dent

Sometimes though, you may still end up with an undeserved dent in your car even if you have been very careful. These things happen and are sometimes beyond our control. In this case, it would help a lot if you have a credible auto shop that has the technology to fix dents easily without needing to repaint your car.
