What to do When Someone Hits Your Parked Car

June 17, 2022/by carmel

If you’re like most people, you probably park your car on the street. And if you’re like most people, at some point in time your car has been hit by another car. This can be a frustrating experience, but don’t worry – we’re here to help! In this blog post, we will discuss what to do when someone hits your parked car. Keep reading for helpful tips and advice!

Stay Calm

If you come outside to find that your parked car has been hit by another car, the first thing you should do is stay calm. It can be tempting to lash out at the other driver, but this will only make the situation worse. Once you’ve calmed down, assess the damage to your car. If it doesn’t look too severe, you may be able to drive it away. However, if the damage is more significant, you’ll need to call a tow truck.

Call the Police

After you’ve assessed the damage to your car, the next step is to call the police. This is important even if the damage doesn’t seem too severe. The police will come to the scene and file a report, which will be useful if you need to make an insurance claim. They will also exchange information with the other driver.

Get the Other Driver’s Information

If the other driver is still at the scene, be sure to get their name, contact information, and insurance information. If they’re not there, try to get their license plate number. This will be helpful in tracking down the other driver.

Document the Damage

Once the police have left the scene, it’s time to document the damage. Be sure to take pictures of the damage from all angles. This will be helpful when you file an insurance claim.

Contact Your Insurance Company

The next step is to contact your insurance company and let them know what happened. They will likely ask you for a copy of the police report, as well as the other driver’s information. They will also ask you for pictures of the damage. Once you’ve filed a claim, your insurance company will handle the rest.

Schedule an autobody repair appointment

The last step is to schedule an appointment with your local autobody shop. They will repair the damage to your car and have it looking good as new in no time!

We know that getting into an accident can be stressful. But we hope that these tips will help make the process a little bit easier for you. Remember, stay calm and follow the steps we’ve outlined here, and you’ll be back on the road in no time! Thanks for reading.
