How to Increase your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

September 3, 2021/by carmel

When we purchase a product or service, we always want to get the best bang for our buck. And this includes the gas that we pay for our car. We always go for the nearest station that offers the best quality fuel for its price. However, if you want to get the most value out of every drop of gas you buy, you need to do more.

You can start by improving your car’s fuel efficiency and significantly lower your fuel costs as a result. Once you follow these tips that we are about to share, you’ll be able to save even more. Please keep reading and discover the techniques to make your car more fuel-efficient and even increase its lifespan.

Drive Smoothly

Change you’re driving, and you’ll also change your car’s gas consumption. Hard starts and stops make your engine spend more energy, leading to higher fuel intake. The best way to ride your car efficiently is to drive smoothly and at a steady speed, taking advantage of the momentum and not relying so much on engine power.

Try to avoid braking hard at the lights. Instead, remove your foot from the gas pedal and let your car approach the light slowly. Once you finally hit the brakes, the stop won’t be too hard, saving you fuel as well as brake pads. Sometimes, you don’t even have to stop because the lights have already turned green while your car smoothly sails its way towards the light.

Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated

You also need to keep your tires well inflated if you want to achieve optimal fuel efficiency. Poorly inflated tires produce higher resistance to the road, which means your car will have to use more energy to drive itself. Refer to your car’s manual to determine the proper tire inflation levels and follow them every two weeks for best results.

Regular Air Filter Replacement

Air filters help keep the air inside your car clean and free from unwanted particulates. Outside air that the car sucks for combustion inside the engine passes through these filters. Eventually, the filters experience clogging, and the engine will have to work hard to suck the air it needs to combust. The harder the engine works, the more fuel it burns to keep the car running.

As a good rule of thumb, replace your filters between 15,000 and 30,000 miles. If you regularly drive on dirt roads, then you might want to replace them earlier. By following this simple maintenance tip, your car will continue to run efficiently and save on gas mileage.

Engine Tune-Up

Tuning up your car’s engine is an excellent way to increase fuel efficiency and lower gas mileage. At some point in time, you may notice that you aren’t enjoying the same gas mileage as before. You may assume that it’s only natural due to your car’s advanced age. However, the only thing it may lack is a proper tune-up to get it back to its usual performance. Try finding a reputable auto repair shop that offers car repair and maintenance services, and their technicians should be able to give your car a good tune-up.
