How to Prepare Your Car For Driving in Extreme Heat: Tips and Tricks

June 17, 2022/by carmel

Summer is in full swing and that means one thing: extreme heat. If you’re like most people, you’ll be hitting the road to escape the summer sun. But before you do, make sure your car is ready for the challenge! In this blog post, we’ll discuss how to prepare your car for driving in extreme heat. Follow these tips and tricks and your car will stay cool and comfortable all summer long!

Check your car’s cooling system

One of the most important things you can do to prepare your car for driving in extreme heat is to make sure the cooling system is in good working order. The last thing you want is to be stranded on the side of the road with a overheated engine! Have your mechanic check the coolant level and, if necessary, flush and refill the system. You should also check the condition of the radiator hoses and, if they’re more than five years old, consider replacing them.

Use sunshades on the windows

Another way to keep your car cool in extreme heat is to use sunshades on the windows. This will help deflect some of the sun’s rays and keep the interior temperature down. If you don’t have sunshades, you can use foil or even newspaper to cover the windows. Just make sure there are no gaps where the sun can peek through!

Park in the shade

Whenever possible, park your car in the shade. This will help keep the interior temperature down and make it more comfortable when you get back in. If you can’t find a spot in the shade, consider using a car cover to keep your car cool.

Start with a cool car

If you can, try to start your drive with a cool car. This will help the air conditioner work more effectively and keep the interior temperature down. If your car has been sitting in the sun all day, you may want to let it cool down for a few minutes before you get in.

Check the condition of your tires

Another important consideration when driving in extreme heat is the condition of your tires. Hot weather can cause tire pressure to increase, so it’s important to check the pressure regularly. If your tires are more than five years old, you should also have them inspected by a qualified mechanic.

Pack an emergency kit

No matter how well you prepare, there’s always a chance something could go wrong when you’re driving in extreme heat. That’s why it’s important to pack an emergency kit with items like water, snacks, a first-aid kit, and a map. This way, you’ll be prepared for anything!

Use a sun visor when driving

Another great way to keep your car cool in extreme heat is to use a sun visor. This will help deflect some of the sun’s rays and keep the interior temperature down. If you don’t have a sun visor, you can use foil or even newspaper to cover the windows. Just make sure there are no gaps where the sun can peek through!

Inspect your car before driving

Before you hit the road, it’s always a good idea to give your car a quick once-over. This is especially important in hot weather. Make sure the coolant level is topped off and, if necessary, flush and refill the system. You should also check the condition of the radiator hoses and, if they’re more than five years old, consider replacing them.

Summertime driving doesn’t have to be a nightmare! By following these tips, you can stay cool and comfortable all season long. Safe travels!
