Why Cars Shake: The Many Causes of Car Vibration

January 21, 2022/by carmel

You’re driving down the road, enjoying a nice cruise on a warm day. The sun is shining and the birds are singing. Suddenly, your car starts shaking. What could be wrong? There are many things that can cause a car to shake, from something as simple as a loose lugnut to something more serious like a worn-out engine mount. In this article, we will discuss some of the most common causes of car vibration or shaking!

Wheel balance

One of the most common causes of car vibration is wheel balance. If one or more of your wheels is out of balance, it will cause the entire car to shake. This can be caused by a number of things, such as a bent wheel, an improperly inflated tire, or even something as small as a stone caught in the tread.

Faulty tires

Another common cause of car vibration is a faulty tire. A bulging or cupping tire can cause the car to shake, as can a low air pressure in one or more tires. Worn out tires can also cause shaking, as can mismatched tires on different axles.

A worn-out engine mount

One of the most serious causes of car vibration is a worn out engine mount. A worn out engine mount can cause the engine to move up and down, which will cause the car to shake. If your car is shaking severely, it is likely that you have a worn out engine mount.

Brakes

If your brakes are not working properly, it can cause the car to shake. This is especially true if your brake pads are worn out or if you have a warped brake disk.

Loose lugnuts

If one or more of your lugnuts is loose, it can cause the car to shake. This is because the wheel will wobble as it rotates. Be sure to check your lugnuts regularly and make sure they are tightened properly!

Bad suspension

If your suspension is not working properly, it can cause the car to shake. This is because the car will bounce up and down as you drive, which will cause the whole car to vibrate.

Carrying too much weight

If you are carrying too much weight in your car, it can cause the car to shake. This is because the extra weight will make the car harder to steer and control. Try to avoid carrying excess weight in your vehicle whenever possible!

These are just a few of the many things that can cause a car to shake. If your car is shaking or vibrating, be sure to have it checked out by a mechanic as soon as possible!
