How to Fix the Common Problems in Classic Cars?

December 22, 2020/by carmel

Having a classic car is great… but when you cannot drive the car, not so great, right? Classic cars are cool to look at, but if it’s unusable, the car becomes another outdoor decoration, which will just collect rust and dust.

So, taking care of your precious vehicle is a must. Knowing the common problems will help you maintain it better. Of course, you have to stick to its scheduled maintenance to ensure that it perform well on the road. For those who want to learn some problems and its solutions, read below:

  • Overheating

This is a usual problem to all cars but much more the classic car because they do not have the adequate cooling systems. There are a lot of cause but a lot of ways to fix it too. You can even try to fix it yourself if you know how. The following are the reasons why:

  • Damaged fan belt
  • Blocked radiator pipes
  • Faulty thermostat

Make certain that the coolant  is in its perfect degree, and then, have it checked from time to time by a professional mechanic. Should a piece is damaged, change it with an authentic part.

  • Brake Failure

A braking system is important to keep you and your family safe at all times. To make sure of the life expectancy of your vehicle, you must have it checked every now and then. More current cars have a warning light and sound that will tell you of this urgent matter. But then again, it is something the classic cars do not have. To avoid early change of the brake pads, you need to fill the brake fluid to its recommended level. shallow focus photography of car taillight

  • Insect Invasion

Strange? The truth is that it happens to the vintage that is not being used often for a long time. This becomes more possible due to the gaps in the door seals that are damaged, food crumbs that drops on the floor, or even the weather. When you notice this problem, go and buy pest control products that are available in the market. Also, have it inspected to know if there are openings.

  • Electrical breakdown

The standard electrical system is made up of the starter, battery, and alternator. The usual life span of a battery is from 3 to 7 years depends on how often you use your vintage. Having mentioned that, the classic cars bought in auctions need inspection and battery change. Have a professional check this to find out if everything is performing well.

  • Engine Failure

Vintage cars are more prone to damages especially if you drive it with inflamed engine oil for a long period of time. Check the engine oils’ level every 2000 miles. Find the words min, max, or h on the pinholes.

  • Diminishing paint

Avoid strong cleaning agents that will ultimately damage the paint and its usual shine. Never use a dry cloth and park your vintage under a shade. You can try using a PH balanced car wash solution.
