7 Simple Habits to Keep Your Car Running Like New

November 26, 2022/by carmel

Your car is a huge investment, and you want to make sure it lasts as long as possible. There are many simple habits you can adopt to keep your car running like new. In this blog post, we will discuss 10 of them!

1. Get your car serviced regularly at a reputable mechanic

.This is number one for a reason. Getting your car serviced regularly is the best way to keep it running properly and avoid major issues down the road. A reputable mechanic will be able to spot potential problems and fix them before they cause serious damage.

Make sure you find a mechanic you trust and stick with them!

2. Change your oil and filter every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first

This is another important one. Your car’s oil needs to be changed regularly in order to keep the engine running smoothly. The general rule of thumb is to change your oil and filter every 5000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.

If you’re not sure when your last oil change was, it’s probably time to get it done.

And don’t forget to check your oil level regularly! If it starts to get low, top it off with the correct type of oil. Don’t wait until it’s completely empty before changing it.

3. Keep the tires inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure level

Your car’s tires are one of the most important parts. They need to be inflated to the correct pressure in order to provide optimal traction and handling. Check your owner’s manual to find out what the recommended tire pressure is for your car.

And don’t forget to check the tread depth regularly! If the tread gets too low, it could cause a blowout.

If you’re not sure how to check your tires, most gas stations have air pumps that can do it for you. Just ask an attendant if you need help.

4. Don’t let the gas tank get too low – always fill up when it’s below half full

This is a good rule of thumb for a couple of reasons. First, it prevents you from running out of gas and being stranded on the side of the road. Second, it helps keep your car’s fuel system clean. When the gas tank gets low, sediment can build up and clog the fuel filter.

5. Replace windshield wipers and wiper fluid on a regular basis

Another easy habit to adopt is replacing your windshield wipers and wiper fluid regularly. This is especially important in the winter when they get a lot of use. Most windshield wipers need to be replaced about every six months.

And don’t forget to top off the wiper fluid! You don’t want to be caught in a rain

6. Inspect the brakes and rotors every 3,000 miles or 4 months

Your car’s brakes are extremely important, so it’s essential to keep them in good working condition. Inspect the brakes and rotors every 3000 miles or every four months. If you notice any unusual noise or vibration, take your car to a mechanic right away.

7. Keep your car clean inside and out

This one might seem obvious, but it’s important nonetheless. A clean car is a happy car! Keep the interior free of dirt and debris, and make sure to vacuum regularly.

The exterior of your car should be washed regularly as well. This will help protect the paint and keep it looking shiny and new.
